Tagua = Corozo = Vegetable ivory
The tagua nut is the seed of the Tagua palm tree. Also known as vegetable ivory because it is as hard and white as animal ivory. Other name for Tagua is Corozo.
Tagua is extracted a native palm of rainforests in the Northwest of South America, principally Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. All parts of this fruit is used. Root has medicinal properties, leaves are used to make the roof of the houses, the stem can produce floors, and kernel is used to create pearls, jewellery, buttons, accessories and objects of decoration, among others.
It takes almost 15 years so the tagua thorny Palm gives its first fruits; After a first production, there are on average three harvests per year which will be expected by many artisans, designers and stylists who will transform the nut.
The tagua is an ecological and sustainable material. Its extraction and production does not alter in any way the ecosystem and doesn't imply cutting trees.
Our company works in direct relation to cooperatives of craftsmen in accordance with guidelines guaranteeing fair and decent working conditions.
We import the tagua as a semi-finished product, which we then dye in our workshop in Brussels with non-polluting dyes, certified by the inspection body Oeko - Tex ®.
